Salah satu pengalaman yang saya dapatkan saat membuat gadnix Facebook Pages adalah kenyataan bahwa tidak ada menu yang memudahkan pembuat Pages untuk mengundang teman-teman di lingkaran akun Facebook-nya untuk menjadi member Pages. Oh ya, Facebook Pages adalah  sarana yang disediakan oleh Facebook untuk menampung profil perusahaan, produk, artis, situs, atau apapun yang dapat mempunyai jumlah unlimited fans dan halaman informasi yang lebih komprehensif. Kembali ke pengalaman tadi, saya coba ubek-ubek menu di Pages dan ternyata memang –tidak seperti kemudahan Facebook lainnya– tidak ada menu invitation secara native.

Akhirnya saya menyerah. Saya coba mencari peruntungan saya melalui paman Google. Untung saja Dewi Fortuna masih berpihak. Ada seorang user di Facebook Discussion Board yang memberikan saran cespleng bagi kita untuk membuat invitation tab sendiri di Facebook Pages. Walau nampaknya saran ini berbau coding, tentunya bagi Anda yang tidak mengenal code sama sekali tidak perlu berbingung ria mencobanya. Cukup sedikit logika untuk memahami baris kode untuk mewujudkan solusi invitation tab ini.

Layanan FastNet dari First Media memang fenomenal, kalau tak mau dibilang kontroversial. FastNet memberikan terobosan layanan Internet (cukup) kencang untuk pelanggan dengan harga yang (cukup) bersaing. Memang sudah tidak ada lagi paket IDR 99 ribu per bulan (sebelum pajak), tetapi harga barunya tetap lebih baik dibanding paket Telkom Speedy unlimited yang masih IDR 750 ribu per bulan. Harga yang lebih murah dapat membeli koneksi 1.5 Mbps setiap bulannya lho!

Saya terakhir kali menulis tentang FastNet di bulan September 2007. Itu sudah sekitar 1.5 tahun yang lalu. Tes tersebut dilakukan pada awal FastNet mulai diluncurkan. Sejak itu post tersebut sudah dikunjungi oleh belasan ribu views dengan 138 komentar. Yang jadi pertanyaan sekarang, apakah kecepatan yang ditawarkan oleh FastNet sekarang adalah masih sama cepatnya dengan saat FastNet pertama kali diluncurkan?

Saya coba mengujinya menggunakan situs penguji bandwidth paling dasar, speedtest.net. Sebagai disclaimer, pengujiannya dilakukan pada pukul 1.20 AM di mana seharusnya bandwidth yang diambil adalah optimal. Sambil menjalankan pengujian ini, saya sedang mengunduh film Wild Child pesanan istri di Rapidshare menggunakan jdownloader.

Tes pertama adalah ke server lokal di Jakarta. Saat ini server pengujian adalah milik IM2. Tes membuktikan bahwa kecepatannya adalah tidak jauh berbeda dengan kecepatan yang dijanjikan, 768 Kbps. Tes kedua menggunakan server luar sebagai perbandingan. Server favorit saya adalah Anchorage, yang terletak Alaska. Kenapa Anchorage? Tidak ada alasan spesifik, tapi saya suka saja menggunakan pembanding di tempat yang cukup terpencil (walaupun belum tentu terpencil dalam hal infrastruktur). Ternyata hasil yang diperoleh adalah sama stabilnya.

Ada sedikit keanehan yang saya temukan saat melakukan speedtest terhadap server di Los Angeles. Tiga kali percobaan menghasilkan angka yang cukup mencengangkan. Diperoleh angka sekitar 900-1100 Kbps untuk kecepatan unduhnya! Padahal kenyataannya paket yang saya miliki hanyalah up to 768 Kbps. Sayangnya data demikian hanya diperoleh di Los Angeles, karena tes yang sama untuk New York menghasilkan data standar yang tidak menunjukkan anomali. Sebagai kesimpulan, nampaknya kecepatan FastNet setelah 1.5 tahun tidaklah banyak berubah dan masih (lumayan) stabil sebagai layanan Internet kabel. Mungkin sebaiknya saya mengunduh semua berkas-berkas Internet melalui server Los Angeles karena terbukti lebih friendly dengan jaringan FastNet?

Ini adalah tes kecepatan Telkom Speedy paling aneh yang saya dapat. Saat ini rata-rata kecepatan Telkom Speedy (untuk time based khususnya) adalah 600an kbps (untuk download). Saya coba tes di server Jakarta dan Los Angeles di Speedtest.net dapatnya memang segitu. Anehnya, ketika saya iseng mencoba ke server Anchorage, Alaska, kecepatannya menghasilkan hasil yang cukup mencengangkan (untuk ukuran Indonesia tentunya). 

Diperoleh 1605 kbps untuk downlink! Pada awalnya, sekitar 30% speedtest yang pertama, kecepatannya masih standar di 200-300 kbps, tapi ketika di atas 60% speedtest, tiba-tiba ter-boost ke angka 1605! Suspect-nya sih ada anomali sesaat. Jadinya saya coba uji kecepatan lagi. 

Ternyata memang benar. Hanya anomali sesaat. Yang didapat di uji kecepatan kedua adalah *standar* 642 kbps. Yah, lumayan lah kecepatannya bisa menyaingi FastNet. Apakah Speedy bisa begini terus? Soalnya dengan paket gratis 8 malem hingga 8 pagi seperti ini, jaringan Internet saya menjadi tidak handal (tidak reliable), susah sekali koneksinya.

Bagaimana niy Telkom?

Mumpung lagi heboh Fast Net dari First Media yang nawarin paket unlimited per bulannya dengan harga “memuaskan”, saya coba tulis sedikit pengalaman dia yang baru saja dipasang jaringannya. Awalnya saya tau paket ini saat di rumah dia, yang di daerah Cideng Barat, ada brosur penawarannya.

Wah, nampaknya uhuy juga.. menjanjikan kecepatan lebih baik dari Telkom Speedy tapi dengan harga pas dan unlimited. Kebetulan di situ ada no telp Sales Representative (no ponsel) yang bisa dihubungi.

Awalnya sih belum segitunya tertarik. Saya coba liat-liat di Internet, siapa tau ada pengalaman soal First Media, yang dulu beken dengan nama Kabelvision. Ternyata, di Kaskus sendiri pembahasan ini sudah sangat heboh.

Baik dari segi kualitas jaringan yang okay, sampai janji-janji surga pemasangan user baru yang tidak kunjung terpenuhi. Saya bilang ke dia, well coba aja telpon. Siapa tau lewat Salesman-nya akan lebih dapat perhatian.

Akhirnya karena sempet “kesel” dengan layanan Speedy dia coba nelp. Well, dia bulan kemaren udah bayar, tapi aktivasi lagi karena keterlambatan pembayarannya rada lama. Itu tolong CS-nya diperbaiki lagi ya.

Dicobalah telp Salesman First Media ini, ternyata hasilnya di luar dugaan. Dia menyanggupi pemasangan per minggu ini. Tepatnya sabtu kemaren. Itu pun akhirnya jadi Minggu dengan pemberitahuan dari pihak mereka. Saya pikir, hal seperti ini sangat bagus karena dapat meningkatkan kepercayaan konsumen.
